Introduction
Safety Net Dispatch ("we," "us," or "our") publishes construction safety resources, a newsletter, and linked tools.
This policy explains the data used by this website and the linked services. Questions can be sent to the email address below.
Information We Collect
Newsletter and Field Talk Accounts
The newsletter signup form is provided by Substack. When you subscribe, Substack receives your email address and manages your subscription. We use subscriber information available to us through Substack to:
- Send you newsletters and updates about Safety Net Dispatch
- Notify you about new tools or resources
- Communicate important information related to your subscription
Field Talk requires an account. Supabase handles its email and password signup, sign-in, password reset, and profile information. Field Talk stores the talks and recent attendee names you save, which can include project details, talk content, attendee names and attendance, and recipient names and email addresses. The main Safety Net Dispatch website does not collect your Field Talk password.
Heat Planner Data
When you request live weather, the heat planner sends the location or coordinates you provide to a Cloudflare Worker, which uses OpenWeatherMap for the weather lookup. Its tool-use records in Cloudflare D1 may include location, crew size, weather and risk values, and an email address for relevant actions. If you request an emailed plan, Resend processes the recipient email address and PDF. Selected review events may also be sent to a private Google Sheet if that optional integration is configured.
Analytics Data
We use PostHog to understand visits to our site and tools. Depending on the page, the events we send may include:
- The page path, visit and page-leave events
- Clicks on newsletter or tool links
- Browser, device, and general referrer information
- IP addresses associated with requests to PostHog, which PostHog may store with events
We do not intentionally send newsletter form contents to PostHog. Our main-site analytics script disables session replay, limits captured events, removes query strings from page URLs, and sends only bounded campaign labels from tagged links. Disabling location enrichment does not by itself prevent PostHog from receiving or storing the IP address used for the request. PostHog's privacy policy is at posthog.com/privacy.
Cookies
Our website and linked services may use cookies or local storage for analytics, subscriptions, security, and preferences. These may include:
- PostHog browser storage used to recognize visits
- Substack storage associated with its embedded signup form
- Security or performance cookies set by the hosting provider
You can manage cookies and site data in your browser. You can also use browser privacy controls, including Do Not Track where supported by our analytics setup.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver the tools and services you request
- Send newsletters and updates you've subscribed to
- Analyze site usage and improve our tools and content
- Track which tools are most useful to our audience
- Monitor and prevent fraud or security issues
- Comply with legal obligations
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell newsletter email addresses. The site and linked tools use these service providers:
- Substack: Hosts the embedded newsletter form, subscriptions, and newsletter delivery.
- PostHog: Measures site and tool usage using visit events, pseudonymous browser identifiers, technical browser data, and IP addresses received with analytics requests.
- Cloudflare: Provides DNS, security, delivery, and hosting for parts of the site and tools. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures comparison-matrix page visits and referring hosts. The heat planner routes weather requests through a Cloudflare Worker and stores tool-use records in Cloudflare D1. We do not use Cloudflare Web Analytics for UTM or custom tool-interaction reports.
- Supabase: Handles Field Talk account authentication and stores profiles, saved talks, and recent attendee names.
- OpenAI: Processes relevant Field Talk inputs to generate draft toolbox talks.
- OpenWeatherMap: Provides live weather and location lookup for the heat planner through our Cloudflare Worker.
- Formspree and Resend: The ROI calculator uses Formspree for its contact form and Resend for optional emailed PDF reports. The heat planner uses Resend for emailed plans, and Field Talk uses it when you email a talk or PDF. These features send the information needed to provide them to the respective provider.
- Google Sheets: Selected heat-plan review events may be forwarded to a private sheet if that optional integration is configured.
- External Links: Our site contains links to external websites (LinkedIn, nickrogoff.com, etc.). We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Data Retention
Substack manages newsletter subscription records. You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter. Contact us if you need help with information held directly by Safety Net Dispatch.
Analytics and tool service providers retain data under their own settings and policies. Contact us for the current configuration of information we control.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: You can request that we correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: You can request that we delete your information (subject to legal obligations).
- Opt-Out: You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time.

Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we strive to protect your information.
Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete such information and terminate the child's account.
